Towards Geneva (and a giant pink bunny)
Morning
Our Amsterdam hotel canceled on us, so we had to rebook when we have more internet. We had breakfast from a French bakery nearby.
Giant Pink Bunny
We journeyed to the giant pink bunny on the Italian Alps, on our way to Torino (unfortunately, we weren’t able to stop there).
Drive to Geneva
The drive to Geneva would take us a little over four hours, and got a little lost to our hotel.
Morning
Evan and I woke up much later than anticipated. As we checked for directions to the pink bunny, we found out the hotel that we booked in Amsterdam was not going to be open in time. They said they would email us a list of alternative hotels. I was rather sad, because it seemed like a cool concept. As it was rather late, we cut out lunch in Torino. Luckily, there was a fantastic French bakery right next to our hotel, where we got two amazing chocolate croissants for breakfast and a baguette for the ride to Geneva. To brighten our day, it was also incredibly cheap. Then we headed out for the first three-hour leg of our trip. Onwards to the bunny!
Giant Pink Bunny
Egads- I can’t believe how much of climb it is to the giant pink bunny. Sure, it’s not Mount Everest or anything (only an elevation of 800 ft from the road), but the bunny’s secretly evil that it was dropped on top of a hill. Couldn’t it have dropped in a valley? … Preferably by a road. I’m not much of an athletic person, and dreaded this walk… Evan put up with so much complaining from me, it’s rather unbelievable. The bunny is completely knitted- took five years and was up in 2005; there are holes in it though, and it’s gotten faded in some areas. There was no one around since it wasn’t skiing season by any means. There was a guy hiking down from the bunny presumably when we were walking up. Walking downhill was better than going uphill of course… but I still can’t appreciate the outdoors as much as Evan does. Sure, I like most animals and do appreciate most of nature’s elegance and beauty, but I can’t stand bugs and the like that make my life more miserable.
Drive to Geneva
We then started our four-hour drive to Geneva. Since we would be in Torino or any major city too early for dinner, we had a “lunnerâ€- lunch/dinner at a take away place along the road. I worked on writing blog entries for the last few days during the seven-hour trip. There is always something to do, even outside of Olin.
When we got to Geneva, it was dark and raining. Not only that, the address of the hotel was incorrect, so the navigation system wasn’t at the right address. The directions to the hotel were rather incomprehensible and not really applicable to our location. Apparently, it is located in a shopping center, so we did a search for nearby shopping malls. We eventually got there, even with the confusing streets of Geneva. We would later get lost around the same area again. The whole hotel location (as in, in a mall) was sort of weird, but it was rather nice. Yay for free wi-fi- so we revamped the blog structure, and got the pictures up. We know it is buggy, but I really needed to wake up in the morning for the UN tour, and it was already two in the morning by the time I stopped.
